MARTY CALHOUN
Registered Physiotherapist & Advanced Craniosacral Therapist
Marty has been a licensed physiotherapist since graduating from Queen’s University in 1996. Over the years, he has continually advanced his clinical skills through extensive post-graduate training with respected osteopathic institutions, including the Upledger Institute, Barral Institute, and John F. Barnes’ Myofascial Release approach. He has also completed the full McKenzie Method certification, specializing in the treatment of neck and back pain.
Marty integrates a wide range of techniques into his practice, combining evidence-based physiotherapy with osteopathic principles to help clients restore mobility, reduce pain, and achieve their highest level of function.
He has a particular interest in treating chronic pain and complex, unresolved conditions—especially in clients who have seen limited results despite pursuing various therapies. Marty is passionate about uncovering the root cause of persistent dysfunction and enjoys working with patients who feel they have “tried everything.”
Dedicated to lifelong learning, Marty continues to expand his therapeutic toolkit to provide personalized, effective care tailored to each individual.
FAQ’s
-
Marty is trained as a physiotherapist, and this remains the foundation of his assessment and treatment strategies. However, having developed skill sets in craniosacral therapy and osteopathic techniques, he integrates various philosophies into his treatment style. As a result, his treatments may differ from what you might expect from a more traditional physiotherapist.
Marty’s approach is detailed and focused on understanding how your body holds tension and patterns of restriction. By integrating a series of gentle manual therapy techniques—similar in pressure to a light massage—he follows these patterns of tension. A sense of relaxation and the body 'letting go' is a common experience after a session.
-
Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, sensitive-touch treatment method that releases deep tensions in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction. Combined with Marty’s use of osteopathic techniques and visceral manipulation, this unique approach is what sets his treatment style apart from that of traditional physiotherapists.
-
When diagnosing and treating using craniosacral therapy techniques, it is important to allow the body to settle into its current state of tension. Through gentle touch and manual techniques, the body reveals patterns and directions to follow. These techniques are subtle and require time and patience for the body to release and let go.
